In globalization era where there is no strict restriction to communicate with other people in all over the world, people tend to be part of world community and society. Thus, people in all over the world are notonly part of their rural, city, province, or even nation citizen but also part of the world citizen and nowadays it is called global citizenship.Global citizenship is a sense of duty to make a welfare for the world, take action for a fairer place, care and protect the Earth. Global citizen means people who be part of global interaction and be able to do something influential for all people in the world.
Global citizenship leads the world to systemic changes. Political, economic, cultural and social changes grow a self-awareness to be more competence and responsible towards other human beings. It bears ways of thinking how to live with cross-cutting communities despite their cities, regions, states, nations, cultures, races, and languages. It has been character of human beings to share a balanced against the differences that are so conspicuous. The differences between human beings in the world are their identity to understand their trully-self origin. It means although people are part of the world communities, people should be proud of their cultural identity and local place where they are raised as each people were born in a given place which God wants them to participate for a better place, for a better world.
Those begin with interactions and knowledges that can only be learned through education. It is the key to reach achievements internationally and to sustain local wisdom in globalization era. People will learn how to grow cultural empahty and intercultural competence as cultural empathy leads people seeing human from different perspective, bringing curiousity of their own identities, and experience unfamiliar cultures. In case, if people around the world is curious enough to experience our culture, why don’t we proud of our local wisdom?
Sustaining local wisdom as our true identity makes the world see an existing of a uniqueness culture from a land where we are born. Since our local wisdom teaches to be a polite human being, respect living things, healthy living things, follow the rules, tolerance, unity, emphasizing other people importance, and togetherness. All we can see on Pancasila as our nation identity, many can be learned and can inspire others as if we show the world our trully identity. Additionally, as student which have identity as Gadjah Mada State Univeristy student, gaining multi-competences and intercultural for global welfare is a duty that leads us being a respected global citizens.
